mum's day

gin gin motel
10:00 PM

today made me miss my family a bit. our host family insisted that both meagan and i call home when they learned that we hadn't spoken with our families since leaving the states. breakfast was absolutely delicious-bacon, eggs, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms all cooked on the grill and eaten outside. we were also served toast, and i enjoyed "white tea" (tea with milk) with my breakfast.

cynan, the 9-year-old and i got along well. we had quite the conversation about comparisons between america and australia.
"what do you call "pizza" in america?"
"do you have "finding nemo" in america?"
"what do you call "fried rice" in america?"
we came up with a short list of differences but i think he was disappointed by all of the similarities. this cute kid reminded me of paul.

we made our way to church- a small country baptist church. we sat in the front row with our host family and had a good view of all the "mum's day" activities. morning tea followed the services, which was far more than just beverages: trays and trays of food which just kept coming!

before going to carl's parents house for lunch with our host families, we went to another lookout and had about 30 minutes for a walk through the rainforest. i got to go on another walk, soon after, "a bush walk" with cynan after lunch. we also taught me a game to play with his bouncy ball, but before we both knew it, it was time for me to leave. his mum told me i would have to think about moving to australia since her son was in love with me. hugs, good-byes and group pictures...and then we were off.

"now i can tell everyone at school that i met an american!" -cynan, about me, of course. =)

the ride to gin gin was about three hours, but between manning a temperamental dvd player and smacking carl during yet another game of spot-o, i was kept from being too sad about farewells.

dinner tonight: steak, sausages, salad, potatoes, bread and plum pudding with custard for dessert

*no aussie shampoo in australia! our host family had never heard of it!
