seagull sandwiches

it was not pleasant to realize that we had slept through reneca's alarm, but i was able to get ready for the day in under ten minutes and make it to our early breakfast at the picnic tables on time-which was 6 AM. before we left, we discovered a few kangaroos behind the motel, eating their breakfast. after seeing them in zoos, it was fun to view them in a more natural setting.

we were on the road by 6:30 AM and our day of driving began.
our first stop was in rockhampton, which is where i had my first mango smoothie. delicious-compliments of mcdonalds.
we also stopped at the tropic of capricorn, after carl had been quizzing me about the shortest and longest days of the year-which are in june and december, not june and november as he had supposed. picture time and then back on the bus!

a flat tire on the trailer provided another stop, but not quite as welcome of one. thankfuly, carl had gotten a new spare tire after our last flat. it was several hours before our visit to the giant cane toad and my lunch of a chicken burger (which included beets and carrots-unexpected but still good.) the ride proved to be entertaining in spite of the 8+ hours we were in a bus on one of "the most boring roads ever" according to carl. spot-o continued to be played, and unlike the night before when i mistook a black car for a yellow one i did a fair bit of smacking. we also expanded to other games when the cars (much less yellow cars) became few and far between. we played the guessing game again-marbles, church bells, suncreen and bunnies.

we also told riddles-
"i think i would kill myself too if i ate a seagull sandwich. can't that be the answer?"-carl

"did he kill his wife with seagulls?"
"how could he do that?"
"i bet he hired the seagulls to pop off his wife and then he felt guilty."
"you're ridiculous...and, no."

amy and i decided to be twins for the remainder of the day. we bought food for our dinners for the next three nights together-bananas, chips, apple mango juice, and supplies for toasted sandwiches (chicken, cheese, tomatoes) and of course dessert of twix ad mars bars. amy and i also bought matching watches from big w which was very similar to walmart.

my third time on-line today! i enjoyed e-mails from rob, molly and mommy, and was able to write back in my 20 minute time slot of $2. it is nice to be confident that there are e-mails awaiting me from people who love me.

we rode into the town of airlie beach tonight along with jodi, sean and tyler, attempting to use some of our bus passes. after wandering the town and discovering that most of the shops were close, those who had not used the internet did so while amy and i passed the time playing 10,000 thanks to the dice in my purse. with only two players, the game became "heated" quickly. =) a few close games came and went and before we knew it the internet users were ready to leave. our game would be continued...but first 50 cent ice cream cones from mcdonalds!
