spaghetti, spot-o and surfer's paradise

spaghetti for breakfast was a new experience for me-quite similar to spaghetti-o's and warm and yummy. (carl ate his spaghetti on top of toast, with a fork-the true aussie way.) i also enjoyed weet bix with milk and golden syrup. we also had fresh fruit, hash brown patties and toast. so much food!

after cleaning up the camp, we drove about 20 minutes to cape byron lighthouse. there was quite the view from the most eastern point in australia-all the colors of the sea in the complete vibrancy: blue, grey and green. not far from the lighhouse was byron bay where we spent a few hours shopping and eating. i liked this quaint beach town along with the opportunity to use free internet: my first time in 6 days! i almost didn't know what to do when i got on! =) i had multiple e-mails waiting from mommy and rob, which were quite nice to read.

lunch was fish and chips, along with lift, a lemony soda to drink (my first aussie experience with lemon soda was when i ordered lemonade, and received a carbonated drink. at least this time i knew what i was getting!) which amy, jodi, and i ate on the beach, watching the surfers and the beauty of the ocean in movement.

we made our way north and viewed "no man's land" where new south wales and queensland meet; and we crossed over into queensland where we'll be for the remainder of our trip. it was "exciting."
"aren't you excited? i'm excited." -carl

carl and i played a new (at least new to me) game called "spot-o." any time you see a yellow car, "spot-o" is yelled and you hit the other person in the arm. if you hit the person when the car wasn't yellow, the other person gets a free hit. this provided a great deal of entertainment, not to mention a minorly sore right arm. but carl doesn't hit too hard, since i think he likes the satisifaction of winning more than inflicting pain on others.
"you're pretty good at this-for a girl." -carl, regarding my ability to play spot-o

we pulled into "the islander" where we'll be staying for the next two nights. it is easy to find, not only for its central location, but also for its nice salmon colour. we've had a few hours to explore surfer's paradise before our dinner, made by carl. i think my favorite discovery was the shopping centere called, "alison park centre."

dinner was delicious. carl made us chicken fajitas in a community kitchen on the first floor. josh and tyler helped by chopping vegetables. i offered to help but i think i would have just gotten in the way. there was a small balcony outside of the kitchen and i talked with jim and chris while we waited for the food to be ready.

after dinner, we had dessert of soft ice cream (which i learned later was because there wasn't a freezer) with chocolate shell and caramel sauce along with gummy frogs (which were better separate from the ice cream even though carl tried hard to add them to my ice cream.) tomorrow we get to spend the day at the beach and shopping. i'm excited for boogie boarding, thanks to carl for loaning us two boards for the day. that's a little more on my level, unlike surfing. =)
